Shout Out To Thato Mochone!!!
I am super excited to introduce Thato Mochone. i first met this amazing lady during our under grad days at the National University of Lesotho. She is one lady who just blossomed before the nation's eyes to become an amazing leader in the community and i dare say, one of the most influential women of my time.
Thato Mochone is currently employed at Vodacom Lesotho as Specialist - Communications and Foundation. She is a multi award-winner for the work she did as a radio host at Lesotho’s state-owned radio station, where she worked for six years ; and a foreign correspondent for Kaya FM, a radio station in South Africa. Thato has her first degree from the National University of Lesotho and she has recently completed a post graduate certificate in Citizen Journalism with The YALA Academy; currently, she is pursuing her master’s degree in Education for Sustainability with London South Bank University. She is also an Ambassador for World Vision Lesotho.
Her heart is set on fighting for social justice. She is an advocate for youth and women empowerment as well as the LGBT community. Thato volunteers with She- Hive association as communications and advocacy officer, it is an association that engages people who have experienced, or are still undergoing abuse to speak out about it. Thato is also a volunteer fundraiser who has successfully led and managed campaigns nationally. The most recent ones being “RESTORING THE DIGNITY OF THE GIRL CHILD” which provided primary school girls with sanitary towels during their menses to help them stay in school, and The 5000 steps to the future whose objective was to collect 5000 school shoes for orphans and vulnerable children who walk the longest distance between home and school. She has vast experience in media outreach program design and consultancy.
Thato is a true example that a person's past does not determine their future. She usually shares her past on her Facebook page, with entries such as "I was made to stand in front of the whole class for the whole day because I went to school wearing red "Ricardo" shoes. It's not like I was being hip!I didn't have school shoes...Before you judge me,you might wanna sit down."
Over and above all the amazing things she does, I love her for being selfless and continuously encouraging other women to do well and shine, which is very rare in our world.
So here is to you Thato, may your light continue to shine.
Salute!
